Since Roy got me into mountain biking in 2003 (was it 2003?), I've been riding on and off for years. For a while, after Roy moved away, I tried to get people into the sport with no avail. I've tried going by myself but for some reason I didn't quite have the motivation to do so.
Once I moved to Charlotte a couple years ago, I started biking again with a buddy at work. This time I got into it more than before. I was riding 3-4 times per week with each ride averaging somewhere between 15 miles or so. I'll be the first to admit that by others' standards, it's nothing amazing. However for a guy who was huffing and puffing taking breaks after 2 miles when I first started back up, I started feeling good about it. Also, I'm not a roadie so despite the numbers may seem weaksauce on a bikt but, we're doing all of this in the woods... Towards the end of the season last year, I completed a 25 mile ride. It didn't seem challenging at first (since we've been riding 15 miles on a regular basis) but once mile 20 hit, we hit a wall. Long story short, it was quite difficult and my body took a beating and it was quite epic for me.
With another season underway, I've set a goal to finish in a 6hr mtb endurance race in October. Training for this has just begun. Let's see what happens...
Roy, in case you're curious, I've sold my gary fisher. I sold it and have been regretting it since.
Here is the new ride... I got a really good deal off craigslist.
